Sonata K. 330 (complete)
Notes:
Written in Paris around 1778, K. 330 has become a favourite, with its sunny atmosphere and urbane wit. In the Andante cantabile, the piano's moderator is used. With this simple device, a felt tongue intercedes between hammer and string and mutes the hammer blow. The sonata concludes with a rondo in which lively triplet rhythms play around a square military theme - satirical social comment, perhaps? In his letters Mozart made fun of the overpopulation of soldiers at that time. He was often challenged, "Who goes there?", to which he enjoyed replying, "Guess!".
