Tombeau de Mezangeau
| Composer:
Gaultier, Ennemond |
Notes:
Tombeau de Mezangeau is one of the earliest examples of this type of musical memorial. It uses characteristic lute devices such as over-ringing strings, unresolved dissonances and special ornaments. Like the Froberger lament for King Ferdinand, the highest and lowest notes are sounded at the end, meant to imitate the tolling of a bell.
