Notes:
In this piece, Couperin weaves strands of sound into a unbroken texture with the use of overlapping notes. The rondeau form alternates couplets with the pleasing reiteration of its beautiful theme. It is possible that the mysterious barriers referred to in the title are psychological in nature, rather than physical.
