Notes:
The possibility of adding a lute continuo part to a suite by Froberger was first suggested to us by one of Susan's teachers, Jean-Claude Zehnder. Heavily influenced by lute music, the "brisé" style of the suite is harmonically and rhythmically reinforced by adding a lute part and occasional imitative statements are added. The concise intensity of Froberger's music, so evident in the Allemande, is expanded in the Sarabande with grand rhetorical flourishes and ornamented repeats typical of so much 17th century keyboard music. |
